Global Leadership Award ($72,000 CAD)

If you are an international secondary-school student entering an undergraduate program at the university on a study permit and are currently studying outside of Canada, you can apply for the university's Global Leadership Award (GLA).

The GLA is one of our most prestigious entrance awards. Valued at $72,000 CAD ($18,000 a year for four years), the GLA recognizes international secondary school applicants with strong academic and leadership abilities. Canadian citizens and permanent residents are not eligible for the GLA.

International Leaders Award ($10,000 CAD)

If you are an international secondary school student entering an undergraduate program at the university on a study permit and are currently studying outside of Canada, you may be eligible for the ILA.

The ILA is an entrance award that recognizes high-achieving international students entering an undergraduate program at Ontario Tech University for September 2023 intake. Valued at $10,000 CAD, this one-year scholarship will be awarded to eligible students that have applied for the Global Leadership Award. A maximum of five will be awarded.

Canadian citizens and permanent residents are not eligible for the ILA. Recipients may be required to complete up to 40-hours per semester in volunteer work with the International Recruitment office.

To be considered for the ILA, you must have submitted your application for the Global Leadership Award by the deadline of Wednesday, February 15.

International Merit Awards ($4,000 CAD)

If you are an international secondary school student entering an undergraduate program at the university on a study permit and are currently studying outside of Canada, you may be eligible for one of the university's Merit Awards.

International Merit Awards—valued at up to $4,000 CAD—are automatically awarded to the top applicants with the highest admission grade-point-average from each of the identified regions. The Merit Awards are non-renewable.

In order to be considered, students must have submitted a complete application for admission, including any required supporting documentation by Wednesday, February 15. Please note: This is earlier than posted deadlines for admission.

Canadian citizens and permanent residents are not eligible for the International Merit Awards.

English Language Centre (ELC) Scholarship ($1,000 CAD)

Effective Sunday, January 1, if you are an international student that has successfully completed the ELC program of study and are entering an undergraduate program at the university on a study permit, you may be eligible for one of the university’s ELC Scholarships.

Valued at $1,000 CAD, these scholarships will be awarded upon enrolment in the first year of an undergraduate program. The ELC Scholarships are one-time-only and are not renewable. Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and students receiving funding from a sponsor or third party are not eligible for this scholarship

Awards of recognition ($4,000 CAD)

These awards recognize academic accomplishments for recent Canadian secondary-school graduates. If you are an international student who studied at an on-shore secondary school in Canada, you may be eligible to receive an award. The following amounts are automatically awarded in your first year based on your best six 4U/4M courses (or equivalent).

$4,000 - 95 per cent or higher
$2,000 - 90 to 94.9 per cent
$1,000 - 85 to 89.9 per cent

In-course scholarships ($4,000 CAD)

We want to recognize your academic achievements during your undergraduate studies. If you have achieved a minimum 3.7 GPA (on a 4.3 scale) during the previous year and you are returning to full-time study, you will be automatically awarded a scholarship and notified through your student email account.

$1,500 - 4.0+ GPA
$1,000 - 3.7 - 3.99 GPA
These scholarships may be increased to $3,000 and $4,000 through generous contributions from our donors.

International Emergency Bursary - Closed for the 2023/24 academic year ($20,000 CAD)

This bursary has been created for international students transferring to Canada due to war or environmental catastrophe. 

There are 10 International Emergency bursaries valued at $20,000 CAD each and are available to international students entering a full-time undergraduate or graduate program. Each bursary is renewable annually for a maximum of four years, provided you are in good academic standing. The funds will be applied directly to offset the cost of your international tuition.
